This site is dedicated to the ever popular Welsh Castles Relay, a 2 day, 20 stage, 211 mile, staggered relay race (mostly on road, but with many hills, mountains and bumpy bits on route - this being Wales and all...). The route goes from Caernarfon to Cardiff with an overnight stay in Newtown. It is organised b
Only a matter of time before we have a macot's race at Cardiff Castle?y Les Croupiers Running Club Cardiff, but is supported (and made possible) by the marshalling and other efforts of all those clubs who take part.
The next race will be the 31st running of the event and will be held over the weekend of the 8th and 9th of June 2013. Entry details can be found here.
Teams compete
Sonia O'Sullivan (the Ed's namesake) at Crossgates in 2008in one of four categories – ‘Open’, ‘Ladies’, ‘Masters’ (once upon a time referred to as ‘Vets’) and ‘Business House’. Races within races is also a key feature of The Castles as individuals try to bag individual Stage Wins (and the precious Yellow Castles Sweatshirt awarded to a stage winner) and teams battle it out for both the overall category awards and the special 'mountain stage' prizes. There are six mountain stages in all and three team mountain stages; the Kings (Open), Queens (Ladies) and Monarchs (Vets) Mountain team prizes.
Confused ? You won't be ! Welcome to what some claim to be the 'world's greatest race' - we prefer to think in more modest terms and worry more about more mundane things like safety and people having fun - Sale Harriers' may have a point though (see 'Videos 2010' to the right of this page for more !)
